BMW X3 xDrive30e

Published on 09.02.2021

Plug-In hybrid SUV

BMW is gradually switching its successful models over to electric and is set to meet the needs of a demanding clientele:  Statutory family SUV, comfortable and efficient all-rounder delivering superior performance, whilst trying to protect the environment at the same time.
Looking under the bonnet of the X3 rechargeable hybrid, we find a 4-cylinder 2.0 l turbocharged petrol engine and an electric motor, delivering cumulative power of 292 horsepower (215 kW) and 420 Nm maximum torque. On the energy consumption side, the marque gives a fuel average of 2.3 l/100 km, with an electric consumption of 16.8 kWh/100 km for the combined cycle.  CO2  emissions come in at 53 g/km.
The lithium-ion battery is housed under the rear seats and has a gross capacity of 12 kilowatt hours, giving the X3 a range of up to 54 km in 100% electric mode. To achieve this kind of performance, you mustn’t forget to charge it regularly – good advice for all rechargeable hybrid vehicles. Other than that, the petrol engine kicks in easily but will send consumption high. The hybrid system switches really smoothly from one engine to the other, with powerful acceleration and no delay. The xDrive system distributes drive continuously between front and rear wheels depending on driving situations, even fully electric mode.
The familiar BMW DNA is present inside – all comfort and perfect finish. Boot volume suffers only a little from the presence of the battery, offering 450 litres (up to 1,500 litres with the seats folded down).
On top of the classic petrol and diesel engines, and now the rechargeable hybrid version, the X3 range will also see a 100% electric version, the iX3, sometime this year.
