Important information for Croatia vacationers crossing Slovenia

Published on 11.08.2021

Travelers to and from Croatia should stay on the main routes which lead to the main border crossings. During the holiday season, border controls are more frequent causing traffic jams.

However, switching to smaller secondary routes is a risk and can be highly costly.

According to some testimonies, some drivers decided to take secondary roads that avoid border controls in order to avoid traffic, which has cost them dearly.

Even if the border crossings on the main routes are traditionally very congested, travelers are on the safe side here: smaller border crossings could be closed at short notice, and holidaymakers could be fined for illegal entry when avoiding them.

In the case of "illegal entry", the travelers violate the Slovenian law on the protection of the Schengen external border. Fines of up to €1,200 - and that per person traveling with you - are possible in such cases.
