Vignettes and tolls in Italy

What you should know about the Bip&Go toll in Italy

Most of the Italian motorway network is subject to tolls. Vehicles are divided into different categories.

Payment at the toll station is made either in cash, by credit card, Viacard (prepaid card) or via the Telepeage system. With the Bip&Go toll badge, it is possible to drive through without stopping. The toll is then automatically debited from your account.

The Milan region is an exception to this classic toll system: on the A36, A59 and A60 motorways, the toll is charged according to the free flow system.

It is recommended to register in advance on the motorway company’s website, as it is not possible to pay at the toll booth. You can register with your licence plate number or install the “APL Free Flow” app on your smartphone. Payment of the toll (within 15 days) is made by credit card. It is also possible to pay the fees at the “Punto Verde” customer service centre on the A36 at the Mozzate (Como) junction and at some petrol stations in the region.
