How to insure an electric car

In short: insuring an electric car is not necessarily more expensive than insuring an equivalent combustion-engine model. However, a few specific points deserve particular attention.

✔️ Battery: check that your policy covers the battery in the event of an accident, fire, theft or electrical damage. Gradual loss of capacity is generally covered by the manufacturer’s warranty, not by your car insurance.

✔️ Charging cable: check whether the cable and charging accessories are covered against theft or damage. This cover varies from one policy to another.

✔️ Wallbox: a charging station installed at home may fall under your home insurance. Check its cover with your insurer.

✔️ Assistance: in the event of an electrical breakdown or a flat battery, check whether your policy includes assistance and towing. ACL roadside assistance also covers electric vehicles.
