A final Farewell

It is with profound sadness that we learned of the passing of Robert Goebbels at the age of 81. A committed European, a major figure in Luxembourg’s political life and a key architect of the Schengen Agreement, a true pillar of European integration, Robert Goebbels also placed his expertise and insight at the service of the Automobile Club of Luxembourg as a member of its Board of Directors.

During his mandate, he worked with conviction to advance the missions of the ACL and to support its teams. His experience, vision and strong sense of collective responsibility were invaluable assets within the various committees of our club. He leaves behind a lasting imprint on our organisation, the full significance of which is still felt today.

Robert played a major role in the governance of the ACL Board of Directors, particularly within the Audit Committee. Moreover, his reflections on the evolution of the world, his critical mindset and his sometimes provocative ideas made a significant contribution to shaping the ACL’s strategy,” emphasises Yves Wagner, President of the ACL.

I am deeply saddened by the passing of Robert, who served for many years as a member of the ACL Board of Directors and, more recently, as a member of our Finance Committee. I extend my sincere condolences to his family and friends. I knew Robert as a person of exceptional commitment, endowed with a strong critical sense as well as a remarkable sense of humour. He expressed his opinions with frankness and courage, qualities I always greatly appreciated. His contribution to the ACL was considerable and will remain in our memories,” says Miriam Eisenmenger, CEO of the ACL.

Our thoughts are with his family, his loved ones and all those who knew him.
