Volvo V60 Polestar Engineered

Published on 09.10.2020

An electrifying viking

The new Polestar-optimised Volvo V60 is a plug-in hybrid offering 405hp (298kW) in a superb combination of power, sporty driving and 48km of electric range, with everything you’d expect in the way of comfort and safety included too!
Polestar is the high-performance electric vehicle brand owned by Volvo and Geely, with Volvo, under the Polestar Engineered name, now offering greater performance through its range of plug-in hybrid models equipped with the T8 Twin Engine in an attempt to cultivate its sporty dimension. The new Polestar Engineered T8 engine on the V60 and S60 estate and saloon models respectively consists of a 318hp supercharged 2-litre four-cylinder petrol engine and an 87hp electric motor located at the rear. The new battery housed in the centre of the vehicle has a capacity of 11.6kWh, allowing the vehicle to travel 48km in electric mode. On the transmission front, the model shifts through its 8-speed Geartronic automatic transmission in a smooth and timely manner, with the gear-change paddles at the steering wheel assisting the driver for a sportier drive. This sporty model is not available with a manual transmission.
Once in motion, the car was relaxing to drive in electric mode along our urban route. The 405hp of combined power and 670Nm of torque make for a smooth and sporty drive with good acceleration, all within the regulatory speed limit, of course. Volvo is renowned for the importance it places on safety and has also fitted this model with all the latest-generation safety systems, including lane-keep assist, emergency braking and adaptive cruise control, among many others.

Aesthetics and features

The V60 we test drove was certainly very aesthetically-pleasing, the fine, elegant lines of the estate car enhanced with Polestar touches to the radiator grille, bumpers, exhaust tips and Brembo brakes complete with gold brake calipers. Surprisingly, but to impressive effect nevertheless, the seatbelts were also golden. This model is fitted with a parking heater as standard, allowing for the optimal preconditioning of both the car and the battery (cooling or heating), with other standard features on this model including the Sensus navigation system, the Premium Audio by Harman Kardon audio system, the power driver's seat with memory and the electric tailgate.
In terms of price, the Volvo V60 T8 Polestar Engineered starts at €69,361.
