Starting school: learning traffic rules

Published on 01.09.2023

A new school year begins and, depending on their age, children will be confronted with road traffic alone or accompanied. As we do every year, we publish a brief reminder of some safety rules to ensure that the start of school remains enjoyable for young and old alike.

The following advice from the Automobile Club is aimed at both motorists and parents to ensure that everyone is best prepared for the start of school.

Walking from home to school, accompanied or independently, is often the first step in learning about traffic and how to deal with danger.

ACL's advice

Whether you accompany your children by bike, or they are at the age where they can get around on their own, the same precautionary rules apply.

ACL's advice

Do you drive your children to school? Make sure you have the right reflexes because children learn best by example.

ACL's advice

Drivers, be careful near schools! Children's reactions are often unpredictable, so be extra vigilant.

And of course, always, whatever means of transport you use, make sure that your child is always visible, especially at the time of year when it gets dark earlier and your child may be on the road in semi-darkness (luminous accessories, bright clothing or clothing equipped with reflective elements, etc.).

The Automobile Club appeals to the common sense of all road users to follow this advice throughout the year and not just at the start of school - for the well-being and safety of our children.

All the products needed to keep children visible on foot or on a bike are available at our ACL shops in Bertrange and Ingeldorf, where we welcome you from 8am to 6pm Monday to Friday.
From high-visibility waistcoats to cycling accessories and small luminous gadgets to hang on your school bag, you will find safety items and personalised advice.
ACL accompanies you in your everyday life. If you have any questions, you can contact us on +352 450045-1 or at acl@acl.lu.
