The very successful design of the Qashquai is immediately striking. SUV styling is still popular, and Nissan is offering a modern model in 2021 that is full of character. The top-of-the-line Tekna 2WD version has an impressive interior finish and radiates quality. A very good point. There is ample space on board, including in the rear, and the trunk features a practical partitioning system. The petrol engine is combined with a CVT automatic transmission that simulates gear changes so as put European motorists unaccustomed to this type of transmission at ease. The engine/gearbox combination works perfectly and is very smooth. However, its lack of responsiveness at start-up can be frustrating. Its solid chassis, both reassuring and efficient, is a standout. On the other hand, the suspension is a little rough, which makes for a less comfortable ride. These shortcomings are partly offset by the smoot steering. The Qashqai really comes into its own in dynamic driving, despite its high stance. In an era when CO2 s emissions are a priority, the car’s mileage – while acceptable for a vehicle of this size – seems too high. Between 7 and 9 L/100 km for a combination of different types of travel. The Qashqai offers a great deal of driving pleasure, with a unique combination of an engine and gearbox that are perfect for leisurely driving and a robust chassis that is only too happy to be pushed hard.
