In Italy, only child car seats with an alarm signal may be used for infants. Anyone who ignores this requirement risks a fine. The changes to child safety, which came into force on 7 November 2019, stipulate that only child seats equipped with an alarm signal may be used for children up to the age of four. This signal is intended to prevent children from being forgotten in the car. As far as the technical equipment of the warning system is concerned, only two conditions are known to date: Warning system integrated in the child seat and in the vehicle, external device that is interposed between the child seat and the vehicle. However, the obligation to use child seats with an alarm signal only applies to vehicles registered in Italy. The situation is different for rental vehicles registered in Italy. In this case, it should be clarified at the time of rental whether appropriate child seats are available.
