A new four-door coupé
BMW is expanding its body range with a new model that is part-sedan, part-coupé, namely the 2 Series Gran Coupé — a 4-door coupé with a low, slender profile.
This latest addition to the family follows the success of the large 4-door coupés in BMW's premium range, i.e. the 8, 6 and 4 Series. At 4.53m long, 1.80m wide and 1.42m high, the Series 2 Gran Coupé is characterised by its wide, compact profile, which is further enhanced by the absence of frames around the side windows and a wheelbase of 2.67m. The model is also noteworthy for the new design of its tail lights, which extend to the middle of the stern, whilst its LED headlights form BMW's iconic ‘four eyes’ design. The passenger compartment is just as you would expect — spacious and finished to an impeccable standard, with an excellent driving position and state-of-the-art features.
As far as engines are concerned, the 2 Series Gran Coupé is available with the 3-cylinder petrol engine of the 218i, offering 140hp (103kW), the 4-cylinder diesel engine of the 220d, with 190hp (140kW), or the 4-cylinder petrol engine of the M235i xDrive, offering 306hp (225kW). This new model has the same front-wheel drive and many technologically innovative features as the new 1 Series. In terms of assistance systems, the 2 Series Gran Coupé boasts many of the features of the higher-end models, including a lane departure warning system with lane-keep assist, a collision (front, rear and side, optional) warning system with pedestrian detection and automatic braking, active cruise control, etc.
The 218iA Gran Coupé is available at a base price of €26,653.
