Mazda CX-5

Published on 30.01.2018

The Mazda CX-5 began life in 2012, when the brand laid its foundations for the future: to focus style and technology on what the customer wants.

The strategy is paying off as the CX-5 has become the Japanese brand's best-seller with 1.5 million models sold, including 800,000 in Europe alone.

It is not easy to bring out a new version of a successful model, but in order to remain a player in the dynamic SUV range,
Mazda took the risk of introducing a new iteration. Aesthetically, the model has changed very little, because the first generation was updated in 2015. So what has changed?
The entire body has been remodelled to look smoother, especially the front panel, which boasts new optic bonding on the touch panel. At 4,550 mm long, 1,840 mm wide and 1,680 mm high, the new CX-5 is 10 mm longer and 35 mm lower than its predecessor. The brand's signature colour, a new shade called ‘Soul Red Crystal’, is now available.
The entire passenger compartment has been redesigned to put the driver and passengers first.
The dashboard is smaller but is still driver-focused. The layout is elegant and spacious with high quality materials and finishes. The following new features are included electric liftgate opener, front detection camera, adaptive cruise control with Stop & Go function, traffic sign recognition, and brake assist to name but a few.
The boot of the Mazda CX-5 now has a capacity of 506 litres but is still quite small for this type of vehicle. Floor-mounted cargo net hooks further enhance storage space.

Mazda is offering three engines, including one turbo diesel and two direct injected petrol engines. The 2.5-litre petrol Skyactiv-G version with an output of 192 hp is being trialled.
This engine is only available with an automatic gearbox coupled with all-wheel drive. The engine has been updated with cylinder deactivation, which cuts off fuel to two of the cylinders under light loads. This helps lower consumption. This engine offers a powerful dynamic performance in everyday driving situations.
Ultimately, with the addition of new technology, new features and passenger compartment upgrades, you can relax and feel good aboard the new Mazda CX-5.
Prices start at €24,163.
