With its 3.0-litre turbocharged 6-cylinder engine delivering 340 horsepower and 500 Nm of torque, the new M140i is the fastest model in the BMW 1 series, and probably the last to be equipped with a six-cylinder engine. The formidable torque and raspy sound have always been typical of the brand.
Even at high speeds, the 500 Nm torque continues to impress. Reaching a maximum speed of 250 km/h, this model sprints from 0 to 100 in 4.3 seconds. The eight-speed automatic gearbox makes it possible to change gears quickly and accurately at the right speed. A choice of four driving modes, including the Sport+ mode to be enjoyed with caution as all electronic driver assistance is disabled. The chassis, as in all BMW models, is very hard. For this small stocky machine, BMW offers an all-wheel drive, x-Drive, gearbox. On the all-wheel drive version, the automatic sport mode with paddle shifters is standard. No big surprises inside, the semi bucket seats are comfortable and offer great support at the sides. The infotainment system is state of the art. The M140 is especially discrete, playing the subtlety card in terms of aesthetics.
With no logo on the tailgate, only fans of the brand know what is under the hood. Prices for the M140i start at €40,950. If you want the x-Drive version, you'll pay €3,000 more, benefiting from the automatic sport mode. With such features, the asking price very quickly increases to €50,000.
