Webcams "Pont Rouge"

Undergoing renovation works since October 2015, the 50 year-old bridge Grand Duchess Charlotte, will be also adapted for the arrival of the tram. A construction project, which should last close to two years.

It is thus a rejuvenating cure which goes beyond the installation of a new railing or a layer of fresh painting, even if these two elements are part of the restoration, as well as lighting. The work which began in the month of October will touch the structure of what is better known under the name of Red Bridge. It will not only be a question of preparing it for the arrival of the tram, but also of making room for soft mobility and in particular for cyclists.

While today 24.74 m broad with twice three lanes open to traffic and two sidewalks of less than 2 m, the future profile of the bridge will count twice two lanes for automobile traffic, two ways of tram rails, and two sidewalks, including one of almost 3.7 m (with a cycle lane) and the other of more than 2.5 m, on a total of 26.58 m width.

The construction project on this important axis connecting the city center to the Kirchberg plateau will have consequences on the traffic. It will be done in four phases and at the time of each one of them, two ways will remain accessible to traffic in each direction.

End of work is planned for the summer 2017.

A webcam installed on the building Alcide de Gasperich will allow you to check the traffic status on and to the direct accesses of the bridge during the duration of the works.
