The motorway tolls

The different systems in Europe

The following countries have opted for a motorway toll system that works through a toll sticker to stick on the windshield of the car:

  • Austria
  • Bulgaria
  • Czech Republic
  • Romania
  • Slovakia
  • Slovenia
  • Switzerland

The thumbnails for Austria, Switzerland, the Czech Rep. and Slovenia are on sale at the ACL.

The swiss and austrian annual vignettes 2019 are valid until the 31st of January 2020.

The toll labels for Bulgaria, Romania, Slovakia and Hungary are on sale at the border posts and in the service station of the country concerned. The tax sticker for Slovakia can be also bought on-line on the website via www.eznamka.sk. The Hungarian motorway badge (e-Matrica) can be purchased at border crossing points, gas stations, the Hungarian Automobil Club MAK, in local currency or online via the following Websites http://toll-charge.hu/ or https://ematrica.nemzetiutdij.hu/.

In France, Spain, Portugal (electronic toll on certain motorways), Macedonia, Serbia, Montenegro, Croatia and Poland, tolls need to be paid on the spot. Information on prices for these countries are available at the Tourism Department of ACL.

Austria

There is a choice of three toll stickers (for vehicles up to 3.5t), varying in validity.

  • “10 days” vignette: valid for 10 consecutive days starting on the date punched on the vignette. Price: 9.20 € (motorcycles: 5.30 €)
  • “2 months” vignette: valid for 2 months starting on the date punched on the vignette . Price: 26.80 € (motorcycles: 13.40 €)
  • “Yearly” vignette: valid from 01.12.2018 until 31.01.2020. Price: 89.20 €

In Austria, the use of some highways requires an additional payment either on the spot or in advance by credit card via the “Streckenmaut” system. More information is available on the ASFINAG website (in German). Affected highways are: A 9 Pyhrn Autobahn (Bosrucktunnel and Gleinalm tunnel), A 10 Tauern Autobahn (Tauerntunnel and Katschbergtunnel), A 13 Brenner Autobahn, S 16 Arlberg Schnellstraße (Arlbergtunnel).

Toll stickers for 2019 are on sale from 01.12.2018 until 30.11.2019.

 

Italy

Czech Republic

Prices for electronic toll stickers (for vehicles up to 3.5t):

  • “10 days” vignette: 12.50 €
  • “1 month” vignette: 18.00 €
 

Slovenia

ACL offers the following toll stickers:

  • “7 days” for 2A* vehicles: 15.00€
  • “7 days” for 2B* vehicles: 30.00€
  • “1 month” for 2A* vehicles: 30.00€
  • “1 month” for 2B* vehicles: 60.00€
  • “7 days” for motorcycles: 7.50€

*2A = vehicles with 2 axles up to 3.5t and a height above the front axle up to 1.30m

*2B = vehicles with 2 axles up to 3.5t and a height above the front axle of more than 1.30m

Note: the “monthly” vignette is valid from the date of purchase!

 

Switzerland

The 2019 vignette (for vehicles up to 3.5t) is valid from 1.12.2018 until 31.01.2020. Price: 36.50 €

These are on sale from 1.12.2018 until 31.11.2019.
