The Treasure of Taiwan is home to the world’s largest collection of priceless Chinese art, spanning some 5,000 years of China’s history. Most of the 620,000 pieces were part of the imperial collection, which covers the period from the start of the Sung era, over 1,000 years ago, and only the finest pieces in the imperial collection are housed here. There is also the option of visiting Taipei 101 - one of the tallest skyscrapers in the world at 508m high (entrance to the panoramic platform is not included and must be booked and paid for locally). Dinner and overnight stay in Hualien.
Hotel: Château de Chine Hotel, Hualien (4 ★) or similar.

Hualien – Taitung

Hongkong
Breakfast at the hotel. Enjoy some free time to relax or take an optional tour of the city and Hong Kong Island, departing from the hotel at 9am. The approach to the 373m-high Victoria Peak and its panoramic views across the famous Victoria Harbour and Kowloon is quite simply breath-taking. Travelling through the bays of southern Hong Kong and stopping at Repulse Bay, you will notice that Hong Kong has a very different image that is more akin to that of the French Riviera than an Asian metropolis. Visit Aberdeen floating village, where fishermen have lived on their primitive barges for generations, seemingly unaffected by the lives of those around them, and witness first-hand the contrasts that can be found everywhere in this city. Later, cross Victoria Harbour as you head for Kowloon aboard the famous Star Ferry, which has operated daily since 1898 and has been named one of the 50 unmissable tourist attractions by National Geographic.
Hotel: Eaton Hotel Hong Kong, Kowloon (4 ★) or similar.

Hongkong
Breakfast at the hotel. Day at leisure, with an optional tour of Old China Town, departing from the hotel at 9am. Today you will set off to explore the more unspoilt side of Hong Kong, beginning with a ride across the city aboard the old double-decker tram, affectionately known among Hong Kong’s Chinese community as the ‘ding ding’. The upper deck of the tram affords excellent views of the constantly changing landscape, from the super-modern skyscrapers to the city’s oldest neighbourhood, Sheng Wan, where your journey will end. Enjoy a guided walking tour, taking in quaint little drug stores, ginseng streets, metre-long shark fins, tearooms, antique shops and the ancient Man Mo temple. This fascinating tour ends with a stroll through Hong Kong’s financial centre and the world-renowned buildings that make up the Super City, built in accordance with the strict guidelines and teachings of feng shui, giving your local guide plenty to share with you.
Hotel: Eaton Hotel Hong Kong, Kowloon (4 ★) or similar.

Hongkong
Breakfast at the hotel. Day at leisure, with an optional visit to Lantau and the Big Buddha, departing from the hotel at 9am. Travel by bus to Lantau and enjoy the inspiring views during the approximately 25-minute ride on the newly built Po Lin monastery cable car. Time certainly seems to have stood still at this traditional monastery, with muffled gongs sounding at regular intervals and the monks continuing to go about their rituals and prayers as the distinctive fragrance of countless incense sticks fills the air. Next, visit the largest statue of Buddha in the world, built directly opposite the monastery,
before enjoying an indulgent Chinese lunch that your local guide will talk you through. After re-fuelling you will get the opportunity to visit a purpose-built auditorium and explore the very heart of the soul in the company of Lord Buddha, who will introduce you to the wisdom of Buddhist teachings. Following this awe-inspiring experience you will head back to once again appreciate the wonders that surround you on the cable car ride to the valley, enjoying spectacular views of Chek Lap Kok airport, which opened in 1998.
