Luxembourg rescuers challenge their foreign colleagues

Luxembourg rescuers challenge their foreign colleagues
News

The World Rescue Challenge is a competition in which rescuers from all over the world compete in the extrication and rescue of road accident victims.

For the participants, it is also an opportunity to share their experiences and techniques. As in previous years, Luxembourg will be represented in October during the edition to be held in South Africa, this time among others by the Technical Rescue Team of Lintgen.

Every second counts

When the ACL launched its Rescue Sheet campaign in 2011, Lintgen's rescuers made the trip to demonstrate the value of this A4 sheet. As a reminder, the Rescue Sheet is an emergency sheet that contains important information for rescuers, such as the position of built-in reinforcements in the bodywork, energy reservoirs, airbags or gas generators for a faster and safer intervention.

World Rescue Challenge 2018

This year, and for the second time since its creation in 2014, the Lintgen Technical Rescue Team will participate in the World Rescue Challenge in October in South Africa. On the program, three road rescue events:

- An emergency medical rescue (10 minutes) during which the injured person's condition requires rapid intervention

- A limited rescue (20 minutes)

- A complex rescue with two "injured" persons including one in a particularly serious condition (30 minutes).

While these accident simulations with people playing the role of the injured often involve more extreme cases than those that Luxembourg rescuers encounter on a daily basis, the techniques used are those used during real interventions.

The team is made up of six members, each of whom has his or her own specific role, whether it concerns the diagnosis and care of the injured, their safety and that of the vehicle or the extrication in itself.

For the participants, the World Rescue Challenge offers the opportunity of course to perfect their own methods, but also to discover different foreign techniques. Although vehicles are becoming increasingly safe, their technological development is leading to a necessary evolution in rescue techniques and tools.

The Lintgen Technical Rescue Team is still looking for sponsors to finance its participation in the World Rescue Challenge. If you wish to support them, you can participate in their crowdfunding campaign or contact us on acl@acl.lu, we will forward the message.

And generally speaking, to support all Luxembourg rescuers on a daily basis, remember the emergency corridor. Every second can save lives. Help the rescue services by making way for them.
